There are many causes that interfere with the regularity of the menstrual periods. Some of them are listed below.
Exercise
The heavy or intense exercise can weaken the body. This may cause the irregular menstrual periods. Carrying heavy load or lifting the heavy material may cause the painful and irregular menstruation.
Hormonal Birth Control:
Irregular periods and birth control pills sometimes go hand in hand. The body takes a while to adjust to the new levels of the hormones which are delivered by the hormonal birth control pills.
Diet:
The poor diet or extreme weight loss or gain may affect the hormonal level in the body. Women with bulimia and anorexia often have irregular or no periods at all. Malnourished women might suffer from the irregularity in the menstrual periods. Extreme hot or spicy food may prolong the menstrual period. This may also increase the bleeding and pain during the flow.
Menarche:
When the girl attends her first period, it is quite obvious to have irregularity in the initial stages. In some cases it may take up to three years to get period regular.
Pregnancy:
The body produces different levels of the hormones and certain new hormones too. This ends up the period in women. However, this is one of the major signs that confirm the pregnancy in the lady.
Stress:
Now it is proven that stress does have an impact on the regularity of the periods. If the lady is worried, fatigued or anxious she may develop the irregularity in the menstrual flow. She may miss the period or the period may last long with profuse bleeding.
