It is difficult to prevent if it is purely hereditary. However certain tips including avoiding hard brushing or combing the hairs may be helpful. Try to avoid long hairs, longer the hair more the tendency of loosing it. Put oil preferably coconut at least twice or thrice a week. Head massage with certain Ayurvedic oils really help a lot.
Try to avoid using salty water in drinking or washing the hairs. Using too hot water for bathing may loosen your hair follicles. Too much spicy or salty food should be given up. If possible don’t leave your hair dry all the time. At least in weekends or when you feel free and homely, lubricate them with oils.
Try to avoid chemical shampoos and soaps washing the hairs. One can include pure herbal shampoo and soap instead. Avoid greasy and muddy hair conditioners as it may shake up the roots of the hairs. Plenty of hair-gels, conditioners, shampoos, soaps and cosmetic materials are available in the market. People rush to them and finally loose their hair. One has to check out the quality, ingredients and products efficacy before using the same.

A blend of six drop of lavender oil in a base of 4 ounce of either soybean, sesame oil or almond massaged into scalp and allowed to set for 15 minutes has been used since years. This massage to the scalp stimulate blood flow to the hair follicles and mildly also promote hair growth.
One has to be very careful while massaging and person has to use the flat hand rather than the fingernails. Flat hand massage nourishes the scalp where as the fingernail massage may pull out your hairs as they get stuck into the nails.
