Complications of Diarrhea

When the diarrhea is left untreated, this ends up into dehydration. This is one of the most fatal conditions. Dehydration is referred to excessive loss of the bodily fluid. Diarrhea is not considered to be so serious problem in initial stages. But this is equally fatal, if left untreated or remains un-medicated.

Here are some of the situations to be remembered and needs immediate attention to the physician or hospitalization,

  • If the sufferer is infant or child.
  • If the stools contain blood or pus.
  • If the diarrhea excessive and no improvement even after 12-16 hr.
  • If the diarrhea is associated with fever, which is more than 101 Fahrenheit.
  • Severe abdominal pain with vomiting.
  • If eyes and tongue are totally dry and abdomen is sunken.
  • If the diarrhea is epidemic.
