The word is originated from the Greek word meaning “a siphon” (a tube with continuous flow). In 2 nd century A.D., Greek physician Cappadocian and Aretus labeled that as diabetes. He narrated the word meaning polyuria (excess urine) or passing water like siphon.
As described earlier, madhumeha refers to continuous flow of honeyed urine all the time. This is the Vata and Kapha vitiated disease. It is one of the types of prameha meaning problem related to sugar or sweetness.
