This is termed as having a bowel movement or defecation fewer than thrice a week however there are many opinions. One who has constipation usually passes stools which are hard, small in size, dry and difficult to pass out. Some of them find it troublesome to have bowel movement or passing the stools and often feels bloating, straining and the sensation of something remaining in the rectum.
Constipation is a symptom, not a disease. Almost everyone experiences this at some point in their life, and a poor diet typically is the cause. Most constipation is temporary and not serious. Understanding its causes, prevention, and treatment will help most people find relief.
Ayurveda prefers the definition by stating that if a person doesn’t pass stool regularly and smoothly and who has dryness or hardness in the stools is termed as constipated person.
