Causes of asthma

There are many factors which can cause asthma. Here are few of them…

  • Environmental factors – exposure to tobacco, smoke and dusty particles in the environment leads to asthmatic attack. In very well developed countries the babies are born in very healthy atmosphere and they are taken care a lot against the exposure towards the infections. This care may delay the “kick start” of the immune system early in the life. When they are grown up and sudden get exposure towards the triggers that give rise to asthma.

Children also become sensitive to pollens, molds, grimes, dust and animals. Sudden atmosphere change like extreme cold may increase the chance of getting asthma.

  • Dietary changes – high salt intake may invite asthma. Lower antioxidant intake and lack of omega–3 fatty acids may make body weak against the trigger factors. For certain people eggs, brinjals etc. food may give rise to asthma. It is best to make up a list whenever one gets the episode of asthma. This may help person preventing the troublesome asthmatic condition.

Milk products like cheese, milk itself etc may aggravate the conditions of asthma. Many people get asthmatic attacks when they eat products like yogurt and curds.
  • Genetic factors – it may be believed that asthma runs in families. Genetic factors may be involved in asthmatic occurrence. The allergic condition like rhinitis may be common in them. Rhinitis is the hypersensitivity to some foreign body in the respiratory tract. This is termed as anuvansihk (say – aa no va n shee kaa) factor in Ayurveda.
  • Lack of movement or sluggishness - when someone becomes sluggish his muscles and whole bodily system gets weak due to lack of exercises. The body loses its immunity and can’t withstand against minor irritants and infections. In Ayurveda it is advised that if one is Kapha Dosha dominant they have more chances of getting asthma.
  • Occupational exposure – certain professions may trigger up the asthma. This may include for the people who work in mines, chemical factories etc. a person working with cotton or fabric factory is likely to develop asthma.

A person who is related with waste management and one who deals with dust like cleaning the floor, broom the building and roads is more susceptible to have this trouble.
  • Drugs or meditations – certain drugs like long acting beta, adrenergeic agonists and certain anti viral drugs have shown causing mild to moderate attack of asthma.
